Kōwhai trees adorn the banks of the Wairoa and Wai-iti rivers in Brightwater, Nelson, fringing the vineyards with colour and life. Considered New Zealand’s national flower, the kōwhai bloom heralds the arrival of spring and provides a welcome feast for native birds.

BRIGHTWATER - NELSON, NEW ZEALAND
Nelson is NZ’s dark horse wine region and the hot value tip for the next decade for anyone who likes New Zealand wine.
As Lisa Perotti-Brown, the face of Wine Advocate, tweeted: “Tho located in the shadow of Marlborough, the wines r anything but!”.
The region of Nelson grows everything. Simply put: ‘the place is a horticultural oasis’. Young fertile soils, massive sunshine hours and abundant fresh clean water helps the vines produce to the best of their abilities. Fruit grows in a frost frost free environment with peak summer temperatures moderated through maritime proximity. Grapes slowly ripen in the late summer developing their flavours which are captured through sensitive, unobtrusive winemaking.
The Nelson region consistently wins more awards than any other NZ wine region per hectare of vines planted.
